Wendy Jensen

Music

Mrs. Jensen is one of GFA's Specials Teachers—not only for her role as Teacher of Music and After School Programs, but also special in that few teachers work to remember the names of over 450 students! She links our cultural music heritage, history, composers and theory with GFA's Foundation Stone values and each grade's unique Core Knowledge curriculum, and creates opportunities for kids to learn the energy and joy of music and performance. After School Program experiences vary by year but have included choir, instrumental instruction (recorder and ukulele) and theater (helping with Reader's Theater and directing yearly musical productions in which up to 85 students participated).

Mrs. Jensen enjoys giving back to the community where she has volunteered in leading various kids' choirs and summer music theater. She was selected by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for their local National Citizenship Teacher of the Year award in 2012-13. She has also earned grants and awards for music curriculum development from organizations like the Association of American Educators and The Humane Society. An alumna of Weber State University's Elementary Education program (BA), prior to teaching at GFA she was the Music Teacher and Choir Director at CHS Elementary; dance instructor for ESL at-risk students; and ran her own private piano teaching business for over ten years where students included children, adults and those with special needs. She is learning American Sign Language and loves to incorporate its kinetic beauty into choir performances when she can.
